1. Dealing with Anomalous Skin -

Don’t worry we all deal with it at some or other point of our life !

Here are my go to products when it comes to SKINCARE

FACE CLEANSER

Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser

Price - ₹710 for a 500 ml bottle

Ingredients - Aqua, Cetyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Stearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 20, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Butyl Paraben.

My personal experience -

The Gentle Skin Cleanser has been raved about by many influencers and dermatologists, so I too thought why not test it out for myself. I switched out all my holy grail skincare products that I use on a regular basis and incorporated this cleanser into my daily regimen to see if it’s worth its hype.

Week 1 - There was no particular difference to my skin during the first week. The cleanser has an interesting lotion-like texture that made it nice to massage all over my face. The cleanser doesn’t really lather or foam up, which left my skin feeling moisturised even after washing it off and there was no tight feeling on the skin after using the product.

My skin type is also usually very sensitive to fragrance or any particularly harsh chemicals, so the fact that after a week of using this cleanser and I was acne-free showed that it didn’t have any fragrance or soap elements to it.

Week 2 - I gave it to my mom and asked her to use it and tell me at the end of the week. She told me how the texture of the cleanser was non-irritating, which probably had to do with its pH balanced property.

Nonetheless, it was interesting to see how the cleanser reacts to different skin types.

Week 3 - I noticed a lot of changes in my skin’s texture since week 1 to week 3. My skin started to feel better.

My skin felt more moisturised throughout the day and the cleanser also helped to reduce the usual natural oils on my face by a little.

It compliments a lot of people who are looking for simple and easy products to incorporate into their daily routine, regardless of their skin type.

At the end of the day, the cleanser gave me what I was looking for—healthier skin. After a month, I enjoyed how my skin was left feeling less greasy most days and it’s always nice to find new products that work well in keeping my skin soft and moist.

Highly highly recommend this one girls!

SCRUB -

Neutrogena Deep Clean Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub

Price : ₹200 for 100gm tube

Ingredients - Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Titanium Dioxide, PPG 15 Stearl Ether, Polyethylene, Gluceth 20, Steareth 21, Stearath 2, Polysorbate 60, Glyceryl Oleate, Coco Glucoside, Linoleamidopropyl PG Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Neopentyl Glycol Dicarpylate, Menthol, Disodium EDTA, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Agar, Mica, Iron Dioxide, Red 30 Lake and Fragrance.

My personal experience -

My skin loves mild scrubbing. I know the thumb rule of scrubbing just once a week is fine by the book, but I think on days I wear makeup, its my duty to scrub it clean with something mild.  I hate the scrubs with apricot and walnut shell  powders and oh my God, how I dread the abrasive effect they would have on the surface of my skin.

Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub doesn’t just fight blackheads, it helps eliminate them for clearer, smoother skin. This gentle scrub immediately works two ways to not only clear out the blackheads you have now, but also to help prevent new ones from forming.  First, you will feel it tingles as its maximum strength acne medicine, Salicylic Acid, penetrates deep to eliminate blackheads by removing stubborn dirt and oil trapped inside pores.  Then, you’ll feel its gentle, skin-soothing micro beads exfoliate without overdrying to help stop blackheads before they start.

The scrub foams very mildly, not much.  I use it for a minute every alternate day and on days that I wear makeup.  Since the grains are tiny, I feel that each pore of the face is being individually cleaned as compared to the large abrasive scrubs that we have (just psychological).

I literally have used 3 tubes of this scrub till now, so this review genuinely is my personal experience with the product.

MOISTURIZER -

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

Price - ₹849 for 50gm product

Ingredients - Water, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Penoxyethanol, Polyacrylamide, Cetearyl Olivate, Dimethiconol, Sorbitan Olivate, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Chlorphenesin, Carbomer, Laureth-7, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ethythexylglycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, C12-14 Pareth -12.

My personal experience -

I have an acne-prone skin and I usually get issues during summers. It’s really difficult to find a good moisturiser for summers as each of them makes my skin sweaty.

Then I heard about this cream from one of my friend and bought it. I started applying it morning and evening. After using this cream i absolutely fell in love with it! You would feel that you are applying water on your face with hydration. I applied this over my face cream and my whole skin became matte and it felt so fresh. I even had some pigmentation over my skin, it helped me to get rid out of it too.

This creams is magic for people with oily and combination skin type.

It is a refreshing toner that gives your skin a shower of fresh hydration and refines skin immediately. It have antioxidant properties which slows the process of ageing.

My skin feels stunning instantly after application.

I highly recommend this one.

2. The Faceshop Sheet Masks honest review -

Yes baby it’s K-beauty!

Created to give you a gorgeous Korean beauty experience.

Where do I start my praise for The Face Shop? I feel every mask they have to offer is no less than a candy at a store. Here is a review on a mask that I got to try recently. As interesting as it sounds, read on to know if you would like it!

Price - ₹100 per sheet mask

Ingredients - Each sheet mask is composed of different ingredients. The product is suitable for all skin types especially dull, dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin tones.

My personal experience -

So recently I spotted an offer on Nykaa about buying 7 masksheets and getting 7 masksheets for free, I bought them in a bunch of full 14!

The cotton sheet comes in a regular plastic sachet. It smells akin to men’s perfume. I used rose water as a toner before I put the mask on. The mask is quite wet, but the liquid isn’t too runny, hence it doesn’t drip once on the face. The sachet does contain some amount of liquid inside, like most of the masks by The Face Shop. Once on the face, it feels very cool and soothing for the entire duration of wear. I used this mask at night, in order to observe any difference by morning.

After taking it off in about 10-15 minutes, I could see that my skin looked superlatively bright. My skin felt soft and moisturized. I used the remaining liquid in the sachet and massaged it into my skin.  It leaves the skin looking dewy and ever so slightly sticky. I have to admit, it does help in brightening the skin! I’m a realist, so I’m aware that I would have to use this a couple more times before all the spots are gone for good though. It’s a nice mask, that I wouldn’t mind using again. In fact, I have found my solution for situations that require me to have a brighter look in the shortest period of time!

My verdict: it’s worth a try!

PROS -

  • Brightens the skin in a single use.

  • Leaves the skin feeling soft and moisturized.

  • Gives the skin a toned appearance.

CONS -

  • Contains dimethicone and parabens.

  • The fit of the mask.

  • May not seem effective on persistent spot marks, in a single use.

Every different mask has some unique effects on the skin. Must try!
